DJI Enters the E-Bike Market : Avinox Drive System Premiere

Avinox Drive System is a drive system for electric bicycles of the brandAmflow, a startup that is growing under the wings of the DJI. It's an intelligent system that, for now, will be unveiled for the Amflow PL bike, a super-lightweight (19.2 kg) e-bike.  

The company says the move to electric bikes is a "natural move" due to the advanced battery and motor technology in their drones and gimbals."Our experience in battery and motor technology accumulated in drones and camera stabilization systems led us to create Avinox." - says Christina Zhang, senior director for. corporate strategy in DJI. "For DJI, it is a natural move to expand into this area because we have mastered the technologies necessary for an electric bike system in terms of reliable motor development, battery management, mechanical design and engineering.".

Innovative Design and Functionality

A distinguishing feature of the Amflow PL is a 2-inch color OLED touchscreen that provides real-time riding data, such as estimated bike range and configuration options. Several intelligent driving assistance programs are also on board:

• Smart-Assist Algorithm: Uses several sensors to automatically adjust the amount of electric driving assistance, based on the current driving resistance.
• Avinox application: Allows you to set up anti-theft mode and check the location of your bike in real time.

Bike DJI Riding Modes and Performance

Amflow PL offers four driving modes - Auto, Eco, Trail and Turbo - and Boost mode for emergency power boosts. Two batteries of 600 Wh and 800 Wh are available, providing a range of up to 117 km and 157 km respectively. Like the drones, the batteries have the latest fast-charging technology, which means an 800 Wh battery can be charged from zero to 75 percent in about 90 minutes.

Best Parameters on the Market

Avinox's power-to-size ratio is one of the best on the market, surpassing some popular systems from Bosch, Shimano, Brose and others thanks to lower weight, extra torque and higher-capacity batteries. The system offers 105 Nm of torque with a maximum output of 850 watts, allowing riders to tackle the toughest trails. The bike frame is also compatible with 27.5-inch and 29-inch rear wheels.

Availability and Price

Amflow and DJI say there will be three versions of the e-bike - PL Carbon (800 Wh), PL Carbon Pro (600 Wh) and PL Carbon Pro (800 Wh) - available in the fourth quarter of 2024 from dealers in Germany, the UK and Australia. There is no information yet on availability or pricing in Poland, but it is estimated that prices will range between €7,000 and €12,000.

The combination of the new Avinox system and Amflow's debut bicycle looks exciting for cyclists, and is something we'd love to ride, should it appear in Poland.
