Tracking features - Active Track mode in DJI drones; Part II
What to keep in mind when tracking an object with ActiveTrack?
Tracked object must stand out from the background!
ActiveTrack identifies objects and follows them thanks to the principle of contrast. The greater the contrast of the color of the tracked object to the color of the background on which it is located, the better.
If you want to record your friend while he is snowboarding, a white jacket against the snow will not be a good idea!
Object speed vs. maximum drone speed in P mode
Note the maximum speed of your drone in P mode, where it flies slower than in S mode (Sport) - the drone will not be able to track an object that is moving faster. For example: The Mavic Pro reaches speeds of up to 65 km/h in sport mode and 35 km/h in maximum mode.Keep this in mind especially when following moving vehicles.
The most common questions related to ActiveTrack mode
What happens if the object I am tracking disappears?
If an object disappears from view during tracking, such as entering a tunnel or being obscured by trees, your drone will stop, hover in the air and try to relocate the object.
On the other hand, if the object disappears permanently for us or appears in another place (outside the frame of the DJI GO 4 application), the drone can 'lose' it.
Then, you can take control of the drone to look around and find the object yourself, or choose another.
In the worst case scenario - the drone will maintain altitude until low battery levels force it to return to the launch site (or another site selected under RTH).
What if I lose connectivity with the drone being in ActiveTrack mode?
If you're worried that your DJI drone will track and follow an object without your control until it flies into an obstacle or runs out of battery, you can breathe a sigh of relief.
When the drone loses communication, it will start the RTH procedure (Return To Home) sticking to its flight trajectory to guarantee safety.
ActriveTrack - or just drones?
In addition to DJI drones, you can also use the ActiveTrack feature on products from the Osmo:
