DJI Spark Controller - is it worth it?
Is controlling Spark with phone/tablet enough? Do you really need a controller? Well, read on to find out the pros and cons of the controller, or lack thereof. Successful flights!
Spark with a phone or tablet
For many, controlling a drone with a phone or tablet is a whole new experience. First, you will have the comfort of not having to think about packing and taking the controller with you. Price is another advantage. Controller for Spark costs 639 PLN, which is like 2.5 batteries (price of one 259 PLN). Extra batteries mean staying out longer and using the innovative Gesture Control and smart Quick Shot features to take fantastic photos. However, if you're just starting out and the Spark is your first drone, flying without a controller can be a way to see how much you want to take it to the next level. Let's look at some of the advantages of having a remote control.
DJI Spark with control controller
As we mentioned, using a phone or tablet is fine. However, in order to maximize the Spark's potential, you'll need a remote control to fly farther, faster, and it's generally handier at performing many cool options. Most noticeable in the absence of a controller is the shorter range, you are limited to 100 m. With remote control, Spark's transmission distance extends to 500 m. The remote control also boosts the Spark's engines with a dedicated Sport mode switch, pushing our little hero to a top speed of 50 km/h. Not so bad! What's more, the remote control is compatible and connects to most types of iPhone and Android models. And when you're ready to go, you'll have the remote's function buttons at your fingertips, including camera controls, as well as a special home button. The obvious benefit is the control of the real sticks instead of the virtual ones, making the flight experience more satisfying. Using your phone/tablet as a controller, you start burying too much in the app, losing visibility. When your hands are on the screen, you won't be able to see what the drone sees through the camera. With the help of a controller, you can more or less upgrade the Spark to a more pro hobby machine. Compared to other selfie drones on the market, the remote control option means the Spark is much further away.
Our conclusions
If you're just getting started with drones and don't know if you'll want to take Spark to the next level soon, save some money and see how you do without a remote control. On the other hand, if you've been thinking about drones for a while and want to make the most of your Spark purchase, you'll have a lot more fun with all the options offered by the remote control.
In fact, for those who have not yet bought a Spark, why not choose the Spark Fly More Combo? For a little more money you get a Spark drone, a remote control, two smart batteries, extra propellers and a set of propeller guards, a charger with power cable, a battery charging hub, a micro USB cable, a box and a handy shoulder bag.
