DJI Air 3S vs DJI Air 3 | Drone comparison

DJI Air 3S is the latest model in the series of drones DJI, which introduces a number of improvements over its predecessor, DJI Air 3, which premiered just over a year ago. Both drones offer advanced recording features and photographic capabilities, but differ in terms of specifications, image quality and usability features. In this comparison, we will look at the key differences and similarities between the two models.
Does DJI Air 3S have better image quality?
One of the key factors that distinguish DJI Air 3S from its predecessor is image quality. DJI Air 3S is equipped with a camera with a 1-inch CMOS sensor with a resolution of 50 MP offering an impressive 14-step dynamic range, which significantly improves the quality of photos and videos compared to the DJI Air 3, which has a smaller 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor with a resolution of 48 MP. In practice, this means that the Air 3S is able to capture more detailed images, with better color reproduction and greater tonal dynamics, which is especially important for landscape or portrait photography.
As for the camera with telephoto lens, DJI used the same camera for the Air 3S and Air 3 models. Thus, for the second camera, there are no differences between these models.
Camera potential of DJI Air 3 and DJI Air 3S
Compared to the DJI Air 3, the DJI Air 3S camera shows a significant advance in image quality The Air 3S is equipped with a larger 1-inch CMOS sensor, which translates into better performance in low-light conditions. As a result, the drone can capture more detail in darker scenes, an important asset for photographers and filmmakers. The Air 3 uses a sensor with a smaller size, which limits its image quality capabilities, especially in difficult lighting conditions.
DJI The Air 3S offers the ability to capture video at 4K at 120 frames per second. The Air 3, on the other hand, is limited to quality 4K/100FPS. This difference in recording capabilities allows the Air 3S to get smoother and more detailed shots, which is crucial for professional video productions. In addition, for the Air 3S, both the wide-angle camera and the medium telephoto camera support the new feature of Free Panorama, which gives users the flexibility to choose their frames.
Building a drone DJI Air 3 vs DJI Air 3S
When we compare the design of DJI Air 3 and Air 3S, we notice that both are well designed. Both models are built with lightweight but durable materials for robustness and ease of transportation. The weight of the drone has been increased slightly because Air 3S weighs 724 g, while Air 3 weighs 720 g.
Air 3S has better obstacle avoidance systems thanks to its omnidirectional sensor system and LiDAR sensor forward-facing, which supports omni-directional obstacle detection and the state-of-the-art Smart RTH system. It definitely affects the safety of flight, which allows for more effective real-time monitoring of the environment.
Range, flight time and charging
DJI Air 3S and DJI Air 3 offer similar range performance, but differ slightly in terms of flight time. Both drones, according to the CE standard, provide a maximum transmission range of up to 10 km (O4) under ideal conditions, which is sufficient for most users, even the more advanced ones.
In terms of flight time, DJI Air 3S can ascend up to 45 minutes, which was measured at 32.4 km/h in optimal conditions. DJI The Air 3 can stay in the air a little longer, for up to 46 minutes, at a slightly slower speed of 28.8 km/h. The difference in flight time is only a minute, which in practice does not represent a significant advantage of one model over another.
Both models use the same charging options - using the portable charger DJI 65W you can charge the battery in about 80 minutes, while with the DJI 100W USB-C power adapter and charging hub the time is about 60 minutes. This allows users of both drones to quickly recharge their batteries and get back to flying without a long wait.

Summary
DJI Air 3S is certainly many new amenities and features compared to its predecessor. Some parameters are the same as in the Air 3, such as the tele-camera. However, it is worth noting the improvement in the quality of the basic camera, which, thanks to an advanced 1-inch sensor, captures clearer and more detailed images. Definitely performs better in difficult lighting conditions with impressive tonal dynamics. In addition, the function of recording in 4K at 120 frames per second guarantees better smoothness of shots, which is especially valuable for creating dynamic videos.
The Air 3S also stands out with new features like Free Panorama, which expands the creative capabilities of users, and an an advanced obstacle avoidance system with LiDAR technology, which significantly increases the level of flight safety. Although the difference in flight time relative to the Air 3 is minimal, the Air 3S definitely outperforms its predecessor in terms of image quality and even in terms of internal memory of 42 GB, where in the older model it was only 8 GB.
If you're looking for a drone that can handle demanding film projects or photographic, DJI Air 3S is a good choice. It combines modern technology, security and very high quality of recordings and photos.
