Premiere DJI Osmo Mobile 8

On 05.11.2025 DJI released a new edition of the gimbal - DJI Osmo Mobile 8. Today's times are very much focused on publishing content such as photos or videos and a stabilizer is a tool that makes this task much easier. Although there is one condition... we need to carefully learn and understand how it works, so that we do not fight with it, but cooperate :) The new release introduces useful features that the predecessors lacked, we describe them in the rest of the article.
DJI Osmo Mobile 8 - let's see what it offers

Structurally, relative to the previous version of the gimbal (i.e. Omo Mobile 7 P), not much has changed. We have the same design, which is a 3-axis gimbal created to stabilize shots from phones, equipped with a built-in tripod and a 21.5 cm long extension arm. It weighs just 370 g, and the battery lasts for 10 hours of use.
From the novelties we have an NFC module, which significantly speeds up the pairing of new phones with the gimbal - a feature that is certainly useful when more than one Osmo is used in the office. In addition, we also have 360° rotation horizontal, what previous models did not offer - this is an option that can be used creatively, for example, for timelapse.

It has also been added compatibility with Apple DockKit, which allows Iphone users to better track the subject. Apple connects with authorized stabilizers so that the software supports and improves tracking.
Why and how to use a gimbal? - DJI Osmo Mobile 8

Why the gimbal at all?
- For dynamic shots, where the subject/person is moving and we need to record them while maintaining stable non-shaking shots
- For dynamic product shots, e.g. slide, squat, move away from the subject, any going around e.g. car
- For shots where tracking is needed, for example, we can put up a gimbal and set it to track us, and we make a presentation at that moment, walking around the room
- When we record vlogs and "handheld" shots shake and we ourselves escape from the frame
How to use the gimbal?
- Application DJI Mimo, is necessary for the stabilizer to function properly. In addition, it includes many interesting options that, for example, suggest how to record and use the equipment
- The next step is to mount the phone on the disabled gimbal and start the stabilizer and enable calibration from the app menu
- After proper calibration, the equipment is ready for operation. At this point, it is advisable to choose a mode that will work well for the task at hand. We have three main modes of the gimbal available:
- PTF (Pan and Tilt Tracking) - provided for dual-axis tilt and pan shots
- FPV (Follow Pan, Tilt and Roll) - works in all axes giving the most dynamic shots
- PF (Pan axis tracking) - ideal for recording a subject in the center, going all the way around it, while maintaining tilt stabilization
5. The modes and their operation is hard to describe, it is a moment to feel, so as to choose the mode that suits us best. To facilitate this task, DJI in the Mimo app provides tutorials with simultaneous videos that show the operation of the stabilizer and the movements we are to make
6. After the recorded shots, turn off the gimbal and then remove the phone.

Summary

The DJI Osmo series of gimbals has represented the highest level of stabilization for many years, each year introducing improvements, interesting solutions and new compatibilities. We do not see the need to switch to a new model if you already have a previous generation stabilizer and care mainly about stability. On the other hand, the new 360° rotation feature and Apple DockKit compatibility is sure to be tempting for Iphone owners and those who care about the best tracking.
