Premiere - DJI Avata 360

After the launches of the DJI Osmo 360 camera and the Antigravity A1 drone it was clear that DJI would not leave this segment unanswered. We did not have to wait long - 26.03.2026 has its premiere DJI Avata 360.In this article, we take a closer look at this model and see what capabilities it offers, features and how it differs from existing solutions.
Quality of photos and recordings DJI Avata 360

In the case of the camera, the first thing that draws attention is the design with two lenses, which allow operation in two modes. You can either use full 360° recording or switch to Single Lens mode , which is classic single lens shooting.
This solution gives you a lot of flexibility - depending on the situation, you can record everything around you and frame later, or immediately create finished shots as in a traditional drone.
In terms of image quality, DJI keeps its level.Avata 360 offers 8K 60 FPS recording with HDR in 360° mode , resulting in highly detailed and dynamic images, even in more challenging lighting conditions. Then there are the 120 MP (16K) images , which offer great possibilities when cropping and pulling out details.
In Single Lens mode, on the other hand, we have 4K 60 FPS , a classic, well-known standard - ideal for standard shots without the need to work on 360° footage.
Construction and sensors DJI Avata 360

At first glance DJI Avata 360 may appear similar to Avata 2, but on closer inspection it is clear that it is a completely different design. The drone is more flattened, slightly larger and gives the impression that most of its mass is concentrated in the front. This is no coincidence - that's where the vision sensors, LiDAR and a module with two 360° lenses are located .It is the center of the entire recording and security system.
The camera module itself has been solved in an interesting way - it is something between a classic gimbal and a vibration isolation system. The camera operates on a single axis , while mounted on vibration-dampening elements. Thanks to this the design handles vibrations well.
The way the drone "stands" was also interestingly solved. In the resting position, it rests on the battery feet at the back and directly on the camera module at the front.Only after takeoff does it change its position and expose the lenses. This is a rather unusual solution, which may raise some doubts - especially considering the weight of about 455 g.
On the plus side, however, it is worth mentioning:
- propeller guardsthat increase safety
- fixing of propellers with screws, which improves their stability
- interchangeable lenses, which can be very practical in case of damage
When it comes to sensors, DJI has gone a step further here. The combination of vision and LiDAR significantly improves obstacle detection and allows the use of more advanced features such as ActiveTrack or other automatic modes. The Avata 360 is more technologically advanced and gives you more comfort while flying - especially when you want to focus on the shots.
FPV flying, coverage and transmission DJI Avata 360

DJI Avata 360 uses O4+ transmission system , which provides very good connection quality and stable images even in more demanding conditions. In a heavily disturbed environment (e.g., a city), the real range may be about 1-1.5 km , which is still quite enough to fly within sight.
The drone can be used in two ways.
The first is the classic control with a camera DJI RC 2 with a screen - then you fly like a standard drone, and process the footage later, framing the shots according to your needs.
The second option is to use DJI Goggles 3 and FPV controller (RC Motion 3) , which completely changes the flight experience. We then enter FPV mode and fly from a first-person perspective.
However, it is worth noting that Avata 360 does not offer full manual mode (Acro).Looking at the weight and size of the drone, this may be a conscious decision - the equipment is more geared towards recording than aggressive flying.
At the same time, here comes a very interesting feature peculiar to 360 drones - you can fly in one direction and in the goggles observe a completely different part of the image. It gives tremendous freedom, but it can also be a bit "mind boggling" at first and takes a while to get used to.
Editing and working with material DJI Avata 360

DJI along with Avata 360 offers dedicated software for working with 360 materials. The program is free, well-optimized, and allows you to automatically save projects , which definitely makes it easier to work - especially for longer sessions.
On the other hand, it is important to remember that this is another environment that needs to be learned. If one already works in his favorite program on a daily basis, it may take a while to get used to it - if only to the shortcuts or the working logic itself.
In terms of capabilities, the software gives solid options, but compared to tools like Insta360, the number of effects typically "360" is a bit limited at this point .However, it is possible that future updates will develop this aspect.
Also worth noting is the tracking function.Once it's turned on, we have to run the tracking from start to finish or stop it - there's no way to freely "reframe" it as we go along.Sometimes manual frame guidance gives a better, more natural result than automatic.
DJI Avata 360 - kits and content

DJI Avata 360 is available in three versions, which differ mainly in the way they are controlled and the number of accessories. Each is aimed at a slightly different user - from those who simply want to record, to those looking for a full FPV experience.
DJI Avata 360 (DJI RC 2) - to basic starter kit.You get the drone, the DJI RC 2 camera and a battery, so you don't need to buy anything for the launch. This is the best option for people who want classic control and calmer filming , without getting into FPV goggles.
DJI Avata 360 Fly More Combo (DJI RC 2) - expanded version of the basic kit.In addition to the drone and camera , you get extra batteries, a charging hub and a bag , which in practice means less interruptions and more recording. It is a good choice if you are planning longer sessions and regular flying.
DJI Avata 360 Motion Fly More Combo (DJI Goggles N3) - the most "full" and also the most immersive version.Included in the kit you will find DJI Goggles N3 and RC Motion 3 motion controller, which completely change the way you fly. It's a setup for people who want to feel the real FPV and maximize the potential of this drone , without having to complete the equipment separately.
Summary

DJI Avata 360 is one of those launches that are changing the way we think about flying a drone. This isn't just another model with a better camera - it's a completely different approach to recording, where you first gather footage and then decide what you want the final shot to look like.
The biggest difference is felt in practice. You focus less on perfect camera positioning in flight and more on the movement and creativity itself. On top of that, the combination of FPV, automatic functions and a solid technological background DJI, which makes the whole thing work with confidence.
Is this equipment for everyone? Not necessarily. But if you are looking for something fresh that gives you more freedom and opens up new possibilities for creation - Avata 360 is definitely one of the more interesting directions that have appeared on the market.
