Ronin RS 3 vs RS 4 series
Today saw the launch of new gimbals from DJI from the respected Ronin series in the film world. The RS4 line continues the great improvements introduced in the RS3 series such as automatic axis locks, a large screen touchscreen with locking capability, and Supersmootch mode for maximum stability. We will delve into the specification and outline the key changes.
DJI RS 3 Pro or DJI RS 4 Pro?
First, the DJI RS 4 Pro offers an extended runtime of up to an impressive 13 hours, which is an hour longer than the previous model. In addition, the handle with the battery can be replaced and work almost continuously. Although the RS 4 Pro gimbals are slightly smaller, the size differences are only within 5 mm. The most important innovation is the second-generation native vertical recording, which allows seamless switching between vertical and horizontal modes without the need for additional accessories. A new switch allows you to quickly switch the joystick mode to zoom control, greatly enhancing the operator's capabilities.
Additional double roller bearings have also been introduced on the roll axle for even smoother and easier adjustment. Second-generation automatic axis locks guarantee smaller spacing after locking, effectively reducing gimbal shake and ensuring stability during filming.
DJI RS 3 or DJI RS 4?
Compared to the DJI RS 3, the basic RS 4 model does not have many significant changes in terms of specifications. It retains the same battery, lifting capacity (3 kg), speed and range of rotation, as well as Bluetooth. However, the new gimbal is about 60 grams heavier and slightly larger. As with the PRO version, the most important improvement is the native vertical and horizontal recording function. On the previous model, you can also record vertically, but you had to insert a special plate and rebalance the gimbal. In practice, for a filmmaker, this is not optimal, and now you only need to press one button.
