Meet the UNITREE A2 — a powerful, advanced quadruped robot built for demanding terrain, heavy-duty mobility, and ambitious field tasks. Even though it comes from an industrial-grade platform, it’s also an exciting option for robotics enthusiasts, research teams, and users looking for a robust mobile robot that goes far beyond standard wheeled solutions.
With a weight of approx. 37 kg including batteries, the A2 combines strong mechanical durability, agile movement, and long operating time. It can reach speeds of up to 5 m/s, carry loads of up to 25 kg while walking, and support up to 100 kg in a static position. This makes it a versatile four-legged robot for transport, inspection, exploration, and advanced robotics projects.

The UNITREE A2 is designed to work where typical mobility platforms struggle. It can easily overcome obstacles such as stairs, rubble, rocks, uneven trails, and steep inclines. Thanks to precise motion control and advanced stabilization, the robot maintains excellent balance even during sudden direction changes or speed shifts.
That makes it a great choice for terrain exploration, infrastructure inspection, outdoor robotics testing, and operation in hard-to-reach areas where wheels simply aren’t enough.

At the core of the UNITREE A2 is a 12-DoF drive system based on high-performance, low-inertia PMSM motors. This setup delivers strong output, fast response, and smooth movement even under heavier loads. Industrial-grade crossed roller bearings in the joints improve movement precision and support long-term stability in demanding use cases.
With a maximum joint torque of approx. 180 N·m, the A2 can move confidently and smoothly while carrying equipment, tools, or custom payloads. Its structure combines aluminum with durable engineering plastics for a strong yet practical design.

The A2 is much more than a showpiece robot — it is a practical mobile platform for carrying gear in places where conventional transport is difficult or impossible. It can handle loads of up to 25 kg during motion, while its 100 kg static load capacity makes it suitable for a wide range of transport and support scenarios.
Whether you want to move tools, sensors, measurement equipment, or custom accessories, the UNITREE A2 offers a stable and capable robotic base for hobby, research, and field deployment.

For safe and efficient movement, the UNITREE A2 uses a perception system that includes an industrial LiDAR, a front HD camera, and front lighting. This allows the robot to analyze its surroundings, detect obstacles, and better assess terrain conditions for more precise route planning.
Optional front-to-rear perception can further extend situational awareness, making the platform even better suited to inspections, patrol scenarios, and autonomous robotics development.

The robot uses a dual battery system with 2 x 9000 mAh batteries, delivering reliable operation over extended sessions. Without load, the A2 can move for up to 5 hours and cover around 20 km. With a 25 kg payload, operating time is around 3 hours, with a range of up to 12.5 km.
A major advantage is its hot-swappable battery design, allowing batteries to be replaced without interrupting operation. This is especially useful for longer testing sessions, continuous field work, or advanced robotics projects.

The UNITREE A2 is built as an expandable robotic platform ready for demanding applications. It features an 8-core processor and supports an optional Intel Core i7 module, enabling motion control, environment analysis, and data processing to run efficiently at the same time.
The robot also supports OTA updates and offers a rich interface set, including 2x RS485, 2x CAN, 2x Ethernet, and 4x USB-C, along with 12 V / 24 V / BAT power outputs. Combined with SDK / API support, this makes integration with custom hardware, sensors, and software much easier.

The A2 is equipped with a microphone for voice communication and a speaker for broadcasting real-time messages. This can improve safety and interaction in shared spaces, allowing the robot to signal its presence or communicate operational information to nearby people.

Thanks to its high power, rugged build, advanced perception system, and open architecture, the UNITREE A2 can be used in a wide range of scenarios — from inspection and patrol tasks to research, robotics development, outdoor testing, and exploration projects. It performs especially well in environments that are inaccessible, hazardous, or simply inconvenient for people and conventional machines.
For users looking for a capable four-legged robot with real expansion potential, the UNITREE A2 is a serious platform that blends performance, endurance, and flexibility.
