Note: The F411 4S 20A FC V5 can be flashed with either BLHeli_S or BLUEJAY ESC firmware. The board ships with BLHeli_S by default. The main difference is that BLUEJAY supports bidirectional D-shot, while BLHeli_S does not.

What’s New vs F411 4S 20A V3

The V5 board is a meaningful upgrade over the F411 4S 20A V3. It introduces the BMI270 gyro, adds new features, and improves the board layout for easier building. Unlike the V3 board, which used JST1.25 connectors, the V5 uses solder-only motor pads reinforced with thick copper and edge plating for lower resistance and better current flow. The result is a cleaner, stronger, and more durable platform for modern FPV builds.

Board Layout and LED Indicators

The Toothpick F411 4S 20A Brushless FC V5 includes 3 onboard LEDs: a red Power LED, a blue FC LED, and a receiver status LED for quick visual feedback during setup and flight prep.

External RX and HD Digital VTX Connection

The F411 4S 20A FC V5 features dedicated plug-and-play ports for an external receiver and HD digital VTX. The package includes a 4-pin connector for RX and a 6-pin connector for HD digital VTX, helping you save time and keep your build cleaner with minimal soldering.

FC and ESC Firmware

The default firmware includes a CLI dump file. If you update the board using official Betaflight Configurator firmware, you should also load the CLI dump file for the F411 4S 20A FC V5 to restore the correct settings.

The BMI270 gyro requires additional software filtering and can be sensitive at higher frequencies. This can be improved by adjusting filter settings in the PID configuration. For pilots tuning manually, a gyro low-pass filter at 145Hz with PT2 filter type is recommended.

The board can be flashed with either BLHeli_S or BLUEJAY ESC firmware. It comes with BLHeli_S preinstalled. BLUEJAY is a popular option for pilots who want bidirectional D-shot support. When using BLHeli_S, configuration should be done in BLHeli Configurator. When using BLUEJAY, configuration should be done in ESC-Configurator.
