Premiere of new stabilizer for smartphones | DJI Osmo Mobile 8P

Construction and design - DJI Osmo Mobile 8P

DJI The Osmo Mobile 8P retains the series' signature minimalist styling and comes in a dark gray color. It presents a modern and more "premium" appearance than earlier generations, while remaining light and comfortable. When unfolded, the gimbal measures 291 × 110 × 101 mm, and when folded it measures 196 × 105 × 38 mm, so you can carry it with you at all times.
Very intuitive button layout - the joystick, function buttons and mode controls have been arranged in a convenient and natural way, so operation does not require getting used to.However, it is worth looking in the manual, as some buttons when clicked, for example, 2 times, have specific functions assigned to them.

The new version also featured a removable, wireless Osmo FrameTap module, which was absent from previous generations of Osmo Mobile. The manufacturer has also added two new LED indicators - a circular bar indicating the tracking status and an LED showing the battery charge level. However, the latter was placed under the removable module, so to quickly check the status of the battery, you need to disconnect it beforehand.Seemingly a detail, but during frequent use it can be slightly annoying.
Detachable module with screen and accessories - OM 8P

DJI has prepared for the Osmo Mobile 8P several additional accessories that allow you to expand the capabilities of the gimbal. The most important of these is multifunction module 2, which is responsible for, among other things, more advanced tracking functions and additional illumination. The module offers a lamp with adjustable brightness and color temperature, so you can match the image to the lighting conditions.
The manufacturer is also developing an audio ecosystem, so it works with the DJI Mic Mini 2 microphones to achieve much better sound quality than with the smartphone alone. Also available is a magnetic quick mount for iPhones.
It is also worth mentioning the Osmo FrameTap, which is not a classic add-on accessory, as it is already included in the kit.It is a removable wireless module with a screen, allowing you to preview the smartphone image and control the gimbal without having to go to the phone. We can change the frame, control the zoom or switch the tracked object in real time. This is one of the major innovations over previous generations of Osmo Mobile.
Features - Osmo Mobile 8P

The primary function of the DJI Osmo Mobile 8P remains, of course, image stabilization, and here the gimbal performs very well.Eighth-generation stabilization and more powerful motors ensure that recordings remain smooth even during rapid movements. It also effectively eliminates minor vibrations that often occur when recording with a smartphone alone.
The gimbal can be conveniently controlled with a joystick. We can smoothly rotate the camera, change the position of the tilt axis or perform full 360° pan rotations.DJI it also left several stabilization modes - from classic horizontal tracking to FPV mode, in which the gimbal responds more naturally and dynamically to hand movements.
One of the most important features remains ActiveTrack 8.0, which is an intelligent object tracking system.Osmo Mobile 8P can keep the selected person or subject in the center of the frame even in a more crowded environment. The system works noticeably more reliably than in older generations and reacts better to sudden changes in direction of movement or momentary obstruction of an object.
DJI also develops automatic functions.Available features include DynamicZoom, SpinShot, 2.35:1 cinema aspect ratio recording, low perspective shots, and automatic recording scenarios in the DJI Mimo app. Also still present are ShotGuides and Composition Assist, which help set up the correct frame faster and suggest ready shot sequences.
Also new is integration with Apple DockKit, so that tracking also works in the iPhone's native camera app and selected third-party apps.Combined with the Osmo FrameTap, control of the entire set becomes much more convenient than in previous generations of Osmo Mobile.
Comfort of use and working time

The manufacturer claims up to 10 hours of operation and a full charge takes about 2.5 hours.Another plus is the ability to charge a smartphone directly from the gimbal via USB-C.
Also noteworthy is the operating culture of the engines. The gimbal works quietly, does not generate unpleasant vibrations and has no problem maintaining stability even with heavier smartphones. You can also see that DJI has improved the smoothness of the whole system - movements are more natural, and the device itself seems faster and more reliable in operation than older models of the Osmo Mobile series.
Compatibility DJI Osmo Mobile 8P with smartphones

DJI Osmo Mobile 8P works with most modern smartphones on the market today. The gimbal supports devices with a weight of 170 to 300 g, a width of 67 to 84 mm and a thickness of 6.9 to 11 mm, so both standard models and larger versions of Pro or Ultra fit here without a problem.
The list of compatible devices includes, but is not limited to, the latest iPhones from the 11 series all the way up to the iPhone 17, Samsung Galaxy S22, S23, S24 and S25, Google Pixel 7-9, Xiaomi 13-17, OnePlus 11-15, as well as select Huawei, HONOR, OPPO or vivo models.
It is worth remembering, however, that some of the features may vary depending on the smartphone and system. The most complete integration is still offered by iPhones - especially in terms of ActiveTrack 8.0, Apple DockKit and controlling the camera directly from the gimbal.DJI however, it is steadily developing compatibility on the Android side as well, and the list of supported models is now really extensive.
It is also worth noting that the listed compatibility applies to smartphones without additional accessories, such as thick protective glass or armored cases. With heavier cases, you may find that your phone exceeds the weight limit or is too thick to properly mount in the gimbal's handle. This is especially true for the larger Ultra, Pro Max models or devices with heavily featured camera islands.
Summary

DJI Osmo Mobile 8P is a very sleek version of the mobile gimbal.Combined with all the accessories, it looks really good-looking.It runs smoothly, responds quickly and using it is a pleasure.Although it classifies itself rather as "cheap" equipment in terms of price, it is clearly high end.In this version, the nhe most impressive feature is the wireless screen module, which makes it easier to work and more convenient to record yourself without constantly going to your phone.
